At The Send UK & Ireland, our vision is to inspire a generation of young people to live out the message of Jesus— wherever they are in the world. We exist to catalyse a movement of service, mission, and love, and we are deeply aware of the trust placed in us by those who participate in our events and initiatives.

We recognise that some concerns have been raised about The Send UK & Ireland, in relation to its connection with YWAM, and more broadly about the culture and safeguarding history within missionary movements.

How the Send was founded
We are aware of past statements made by Lou Engle that do not reflect the culture or tone we want for The Send UK & Ireland. While he played a role in the movement’s early days in the USA, our team in the UK operates independently and is committed to fostering a message of respect, service to others and love.

Relationship with YWAM
The Send UK & Ireland operates under a wholly owned subsidiary of YWAM Harpenden. The Send UK & Ireland works in collaboration with 60 other organisations who share our desire to see young people impact the world positively.  Our leadership reflects the breadth of churches and Christian organisations in the UK & Ireland.

We also fully acknowledge that concerns have been raised about past practices within YWAM internationally. We understand why this raises questions. YWAM in England has publicly apologised for instances where individuals were harmed, and has addressed and is seeking to continually improve its safeguarding, governance, and leadership culture. We support those efforts and the voices of those who have come forward.

Safeguarding and accountability

Safeguarding is a central tenet to everything we do. We actively work with Thirtyone:eight, a highly respected independent safeguarding body, who have advised us on our safeguarding policy and processes to protect everyone involved in The Send. We have clear processes for reporting concerns, robust leadership accountability, and training that specifically addresses areas of risk such as spiritual abuse, coercion, and power dynamics.

We are committed to creating environments where individuals are respected, heard and never shamed or manipulated.

On alleged practices

The Send UK & Ireland does not endorse, condone or facilitate practices that involve public confession, coercion, or shame. Any form of forced “healing” or deliverance that causes trauma or stigmatises someone’s identity is unacceptable.

We do hold a traditional Christian view of marriage, but we reject any approach that fosters fear, exclusion, or internalised shame.
